salute
let's not talk about the slickness of it all, or how they amplify the difficulties, or even the smart camera angles. In terms of skeptism, I can reign almost queen. But I tell you this: seeing the monk up there so high, seeing the beams moving... let's not talk about the religion or whether it is the right mode, or if the pleas are even "right"... but in his face, I see an immense determination. This man believes in what's he's doing. I don't know about NKF or TT Durai, or the finances of Ren Ci hospital, or how it's governed. I'm not talking about that now. I'm talking about this man - a mere mortal. He's afraid, you can see it from his face. But you can also see a quiet determination. And I think a few of the Mediacorp artistes believe in the show due to him. The courage that he shows... the way his clothes were moving in the wind, I mean, I have vertigo 25 stories up without a storm but he just walked. This is about his courage. And for this, I salute you. Your determination and your belief that this is important, for you to do something as mad and carzy as this. Well, he has a harness, all safety precautions, yes. But ask any man on the street, given the same circumstances, would they do it? For charity even? A monk, no less, a mortal. Like you and me. I salute you. nb about charities... if humans all extended a hand to the needy, would we need all these hype? Of course, there will never be enough money. But for every NKF, there is at least 3 smaller charities that don't even have enough funds to raise more funds. For every successful Ren Ci, there's at least 3 other more charities that have to close down because of lack of funds. Yes, there are many people that may mismanage charities. Do something about the cause then. If I can, I would just give the money straight into the arms of the needy. But because very few do that - lack of awareness, amongst other issues - there lies a need for charities. The only way for that is to stop poverty and close acutely the gap between rich and poor. There are still the needy. Do you really need that extra gucci bag, or that very expensive new mobile phone that most features you will not use anyways? Do you really need the BMW? What if, one day, you became the needy... do you believe in karma? I believe that investing in the future is always more fulfilling than believing that you can solve your own problems when they come with your own bare hands. Think about it. |
